The Southern Rural Development Center (SRDC) offers training on many community
development-related topics. The following memo provides a link to their training.
You may want to
consider budgeting training expenses for some of the workshops.
Sending a few key people from your community might also be an
option.
TO: SRDC Consortium, Southern Directors, 1890 Administrators
After several months of work with our Southern Extension
administrators and community development program leaders in the
South, we are pleased to release the listing of community
development related training opportunities that the SRDC will be
spearheading over the next several months. For individuals who wish
to become involved in CD work, or who wish to further strengthen
their current efforts in the area of community and economic
development, these training activities will prove invaluable.
Training workshops and educational resources are being offered in
five key thematic areas — economic diversification, community
planning tools, service infrastructure, civic engagement and
youth/adult workforce development. Our very successful introductory
course in community development, the Southern Region Community
Development Institute, will be offered again this year, but will be
designed as a train the trainer format. We are interested in
attracting state teams to this year's Institute. These teams, in
turn, will deliver the Institute curicula to interested Extension
educators and other agency/organization representatives in their own
states. The move to a train the trainer format for the Institute is
a result of the strong interest shown by the Southern Extension
Directors in having the Institute's curricula delivered in a
systematic manner within their own states.
An electronic version of our training offerings can be found at
the following website:

Please note that on the last page, individuals can submit a
request for additional information; and as details become firm, we
will send you/them a message with costs, faculty, specific location,
etc.
We strongly encourage you to share the training offerings with
your Extension faculty across all program areas. We are finding that
many of our Extension educators involved in FCS, 4-H, and ANR have
an interest in CD programming as well. Please feel free to contact
us if you have any questions.
